Selected topics include descriptive statistics, estimation, hypothesis testing and regression analysis. Applications to real-life problems are provided. At the end of the module, students are also able to summarise, interpret and evaluate quantitative results and statistical graphs.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The module aims to hone student’s practical skills of developing and managing an non-profit driven organization in a profit-driven society. Students are required to integrate the knowledge of politics, economics, and philosophy to develop a business that provide public good or service. Under the guidance of the instructor, for whom practitioners of NGO and companies that aim to achieve social goals will be hired, students are expected to design how their ideas can be turned into a practicable business and how such business should be managed to make it sustainable in the long run. Students are required to report to the instructor on a weekly basis about their progress and the difficulties they faced during the process. At the end of the class, students will be arranged to present their innovative proposals or designs to the stakeholders of corresponding public issues.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>This is an introductory module on research methods for social sciences.  The module aims to provide students fundamental knowledge in major social research approaches. It explores several integrated methods of collecting and analysing quantitative and qualitative data so as to testify the validity of theories. It covers the logic of scientific inquiry and equips students with research techniques such as scientific sampling, survey, field studies, archival data, and qualitative analysis that are commonly used in political science, sociology and psychology research. Besides, this module also includes interdisciplinary research methods such as structured and unstructured observations and ethnographical research for humanities. The most important goal of the module is to provide students with sufficient understanding of research design so as to prepare them for conducting academic research in advanced level modules.</p>
