During my exchange at Hanyang University in South Korea last year, I embarked on a transformative journey that truly pushed me out of my comfort zone. Initially, I felt overwhelmed by the bustling city and the cultural differences, but I quickly learned to embrace these challenges. I explored the vibrant neighborhoods, sampled delicious street food, and even attempted to communicate in Korean, which helped me connect with locals.
Living away from home forced me to develop essential life skills. I became adept at cooking simple meals and managing my finances. These experiences fostered a newfound independence that I had never fully grasped before. I can better take care of myself.
Sometimes I might feel lonely because I am alone in a foreign country, with no one to rely on. Fortunately, I met some new people there, had a lot of fun, accumulated a lot of memories.
I cherish the exchange period very much. It is almost the happiest time in my life. If I have the chance, I hope to have an exchange life again.
Oscar Lai - Class of 2026
University of Agder (Norway)
I am Oscar Lai from PPE . I was so blessed that I got nominated by our department teachers for the outbound exchange program to Norway. That was one of a lifetime experience for me!!! And I am so thankful to be able to go there.
One of the most striking things I learned in class was how different the learning atmosphere in there. It's so much more open and collaborative, which really encourages discussion and helps everyone engage.
I always believe that there are some things more important than learning— Friendships. I have got so many friends from all over the world. Friendships are priceless and they will always be the core memories in my life journey.
After the exchange program, I became more independent and confident as a person . I now have courage to face any challenges in the future and I trust myself that I can tackle all the obstacles!!!
